About

Hi! I'm Hilary (pronouns: they/them). I am a neurodiversity and trans* affirming, trauma informed, EMDR and ERP trained therapist. I meet each client exactly where they are, using resilience-based and social justice informed approaches.

I offer personalized therapy to meet your individual needs and work toward your goals. I prioritize providing you with a safe and affirming space for healing and exploration.

I offer online therapy, clinical assessments, and professional consultation to individuals residing anywhere in North Carolina.

My areas of expertise include working with trans* and

gender expansive folks, neurodivergence (ADHD and Autism), anxiety, disordered eating, trauma, and perfectionism. I provide autism and ADHD assessments to individuals 13+.

I began my own therapy journey as a client, and I have experienced firsthand the positive impact that therapy can have in a person's life. I also fully understand the importance of working with a therapist who "gets it" - where you can show up as your whole, authentic self. You can find my video introduction here.

Prior to working in the mental health field, my background is art, and I value the importance of creative expression in healing and self exploration.

Whether you are a potential client looking to work together, or a clinician seeking professional consultation, please feel free to reach out to me for a free 20 minute info session. I look forward to connecting!

Professional Orientation

I use an integrative and trauma-informed approach and draw from a range of theories to suit each client's individual needs.

My approach is primarily client-centered, relational-cultural, and social justice oriented. Meaning, I believe that the therapeutic relationship is key to healing, and I strive to create a create a genuine, empathetic, and collaborative relationship with my clients. I also highlight personal strengths, resiliency, and empowerment. Social justice prioritizes equity, access, participation, and harmony within our society: a social justice approach within counseling recognizes that individuals do not exist in a vacuum: no one exists independent of society, culture, and context.

I acknowledge the ways in which systemic racism, oppressive societal conditions, and historic trauma can take a toll on both mental and physical health. I am LGBTQAI+ affirming and use an anti-oppression lens, and I affirm that all individuals have the potential to live fulfilling and emotionally healthy lives. Click here to watch my video introduction.

Professional Awareness

The mental healthcare system as a whole has been undeniably influenced by colonial systems and ideologies. I acknowledge the toll that systemic oppressions take on an individuals' well-being, impacting physical and mental health of those with marginalized identities.

Our current mental healthcare system must undergo a massive change to create just, equitable, and culturally responsive mental health systems. As a therapist, I am committed to interrogating power structures within myself, within my field, and on a systemic level. I am aware of my social positionality and privileges as a white clinician with a graduate degree, and aim to be mindful of how my positionality and privilege shows up. I engage in my own anti-racist work through personal therapy, supervision, and trainings. I remain open to feedback so that I can continue to grow, challenge myself, and remain accountable.

I am committed to working toward a more equitable, liberatory, and inclusive approach to mental healthcare. I actively address the power imbalance in my work as a counselor, researcher, and advocate. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
